9 Ways to Use Your UTV on Your Farm

Apr. 7 2020 Lifestyle By ___

Your work day can go a lot faster and smoother when you use your UTV. Many farmers rely on their UTV's ability to quickly cruise over terrain and handle heavy loads, making it easy to get a variety of projects done. We've gathered up a few of our favorite ways to use your UTV on your farm. If you want more ideas or want to explore side-by-sides for sale, head over to FMI Equipment in Spokane Valley. We welcome all those coming to visit us, including our patrons coming from Spokane, Washington, and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

1. Prepare Your Fields

Your soil may not be ready for crops just yet. If the soil is too hard and firm, your UTV can help. With a disc harrow or drag harrow side-by-side attachment, you can break up difficult soil and smooth its surface out. A disc plow or chisel plow can also be used to cultivate the fields or prepare your garden for planting.

2. Plant the Crops

Once the soil is ready, you'll need some way to plant your seeds. Your UTV paired with a spreader attachment can distribute seeds evenly in no time at all. This attachment is also helpful for quick distribution of fertilizer, giving your soil the nutrients needed to support healthy crop growth.

3. Get Feed to Your Animals

The more livestock you care for, the longer it takes to get them all fed. Use your UTV to easily bring feed from your storage area to the barn. Your side-by-side is more compact and narrow than your truck, which can allow it to fit inside your barn so you'll have less distance to carry the feed by hand to your animals.

4. Create and Maintain Paths

There are likely many paths and roads throughout your property. Your side-by-side can help keep them well-kept. Pair your UTV with a front-mounted blade attachment to level dirt on paths or gravel on driveways. Use your side-by-side to efficiently fix eroded trails or build new ones.

5. Gather Up Debris

Unwanted debris will accumulate throughout the days, weeks, and months. Your UTV can be paired with a rake attachment for easy gathering of leaves, pine needles, brush, and so on. Once everything is gathered, load it up into your side-by-side's storage area. Then you can easily transport the debris to a waste site or burn pile for quick disposal.

6. Build a Fence

When you need to create a fence, you'll need to get plenty of supplies and tools to your destination. It's time consuming and exhausting to carry all of these materials by hand. It's much better to load them into your side-by-side for quick transportation. You can even use your UTV to help build the fence. Attach a rear-mounted wire unroller to your rig, which can unwind the wire and make a fence, easily and efficiently. If you ever need to remove rotting old fence posts, take advantage of your UTV's winch to tackle this task.

7. Transport Supplies

UTVs offer an impressive amount of storage space. Take advantage of this! Load up your side-by-side with tools, hay, feed bags, fertilizer, and more. It's easy to transport hundreds of pounds of supplies throughout your property when you use your UTV.

8. Maintain Your Yard

Your UTV can be a great alternative for your lawn mower. All you need is a mower deck attachment and your side-by-side can whip your yard into shape. You may want to invest in lawn-friendly tires, however, to prevent your UTV from hurting the grass.

9. Move Around Your Property Quickly

Your work day will likely take you to many different places on your farm. It's tiresome to walk everywhere, especially if you need to transport an item too. You can rely on your tractor, but farm equipment tends to be slow. You could use your commuter vehicle, but it doesn't offer the best gas mileage. A great vehicle for getting around your farm is your UTV! It offers favorable gas mileage and can easily navigate uneven terrain.
